Is What Is

For one night only, Ryan Leitner will be presenting his debut play at the Off Broadway theatre in St. Peter's.

Leitner has recently been accepted into the grad program at SMFA Boston and is kicking off his first semester with this 45 minute piece, with a talented cast of actors and performance artists.

The concept for the show started as an observation of western culture, especially in NYC. Set as a dark comedy, the characters presented are wrapped up in their own problems and issues so much, that they can't seem to help others around them, even if a person is needing of attention in front of them. Their perpetual narcissism is pronounced in their conversations, but also in their state of mind. In the second act, the play starts over again back to the beginning of the play, but this time everything is all out on the table. In what Leitner is describing as "the Ego to the ID", their conversation is random and seemingly goes nowhere but each scene ends with the same outcome. In this act, Leitner incorporates "flarf poetry" to create obscure conversations that add an ambiguity reverence to their conversation.

The space is staged in an undisclosed location that can be placed anywhere (work cafeteria, a bar, public park, etc.) so that more concentration can be placed on the characters rather than their origin.

Please come and join us for the one night only event and reception. Food and wine will be available, as well as poster, shirts, and bags that are hand made and marbled by Ryan.
